Mounjaro treatment is normally started with 2.5 mg once weekly for four weeks, followed by 5 mg once weekly. If additional treatment effect is needed and the 5 mg dose has been well tolerated, a healthcare professional may increase the dose to 7.5 mg once weekly after at least four weeks on 5 mg. Further increases may be made in 2.5 mg steps after a minimum of four weeks on the current dose. For adults, the maximum recommended dose is 15 mg once weekly.

Common Side Effects of Mounjaro 7.5 mg

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, reduced appetite, indigestion and abdominal discomfort. These effects are often more noticeable following dose increases and may improve as the body adjusts to treatment.

Serious Side Effects of Mounjaro 7.5 mg

Less common but serious reactions may include pancreatitis, severe allergic reactions, gallbladder problems, dehydration-related kidney problems and hypoglycemia, particularly when Mounjaro is combined with insulin or sulfonylureas. Seek medical attention for severe or unusual symptoms.

Mounjaro may not be suitable for everyone. Patients should not use it, or should discuss treatment carefully with a healthcare professional, if they:

• Are allergic to tirzepatide or any component of the injection.

• Have previously experienced a serious hypersensitivity reaction to tirzepatide.

• Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC).

• Have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy.

• Have previously experienced pancreatitis.

• Have severe gastrointestinal disease or severe gastroparesis.

• Have diabetic retinopathy requiring monitoring.

• Are taking insulin or a sulfonylurea without discussing the increased risk of hypoglycemia.

• Are scheduled for surgery or another procedure requiring general anesthesia or deep sedation.

Tirzepatide slows gastric emptying and may therefore affect how quickly certain oral medicines are absorbed. Particular attention may be required with:

• Insulin: combination treatment may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

• Sulfonylureas: may increase the likelihood of low blood sugar.

• Warfarin and other narrow-therapeutic-index medicines: additional monitoring may sometimes be appropriate.

• Medicines requiring predictable oral absorption: delayed stomach emptying may affect absorption.

• Oral hormonal contraceptives: effectiveness may potentially be reduced during treatment initiation and dose escalation.

Patients using oral hormonal contraceptives should discuss using a non-oral contraceptive method or adding a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting tirzepatide and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Always tell the healthcare professional about prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins and supplements being taken.

Unused KwikPen

• Store in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F).

• Keep it in the original carton to protect it from light.

• Do not freeze.

• Do not use the pen if it has been frozen.

• Protect the medicine from excessive heat and light.

After First Use

An opened Mounjaro KwikPen may be stored refrigerated or at room temperature up to 30°C (86°F). The pen should be discarded 30 days after first use or after four weekly doses, even if medicine remains inside. Patients should not attempt to inject the remaining liquid after the four intended doses have been administered.
