Ivermectin binds to specific chloride channels in the nerve and muscle cells of susceptible parasites. This increases chloride movement into the cells and interrupts normal nerve signals.

The parasites become paralysed and die or lose their ability to remain inside the body. The body then removes them naturally.

Cancer researchers are separately studying ivermectin’s effects on tumour-cell signalling and immune activity. These investigational mechanisms do not establish Covilife 20 mg as a cancer medicine.

Ivermectin dosing is based on body weight and the diagnosed infection. The 20 mg stated on the pack describes the amount of ivermectin in each tablet and does not mean one tablet is suitable for every patient.

For strongyloidiasis, oral ivermectin is commonly prescribed at approximately 200 micrograms per kilogram of body weight as a single dose. For onchocerciasis, the calculated dose is commonly around 150 micrograms per kilogram. Scabies follows a different schedule and often requires a repeat dose after a defined interval.
