These benefits depend on the bacteria being sensitive to amoxicillin. Zylomox will not help when an illness is viral or caused by resistant bacteria.

Bacteria need a strong outer wall to keep their shape and protect their contents. Amoxicillin blocks important proteins that bacteria use to build this wall.

When the wall cannot form correctly, the bacteria become weak and break apart. This stops susceptible bacteria from continuing to multiply and helps the immune system clear the infection.

Some bacteria make beta-lactamase enzymes that can destroy amoxicillin. Zylomox 500 mg contains amoxicillin alone and does not contain clavulanic acid, so it may not work against bacteria that produce certain beta-lactamase enzymes.

For adults and children weighing more than 40 kg, amoxicillin may be prescribed as 500 mg every 12 hours for some mild or moderate infections. For severe infections or lower respiratory tract infections, a healthcare provider may prescribe 500 mg every 8 hours.

Children weighing less than 40 kg usually require a dose calculated using body weight. A liquid amoxicillin medicine may be more suitable than a 500 mg capsule.

Common Side Effects

Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, itching or a mild skin rash. The medicine can also disturb the body’s normal balance of microorganisms, which may cause oral thrush or a vaginal yeast infection. Speak with a healthcare professional if these effects continue or become troublesome.

Serious Side Effects

Serious side effects require immediate medical attention. These may include breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, a severe blistering or peeling rash, persistent watery or bloody diarrhoea, severe stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual bruising or seizures.

Do not take Zylomox 500 mg Capsule if you:

• Have had a serious allergic reaction to amoxicillin.

• Are allergic to penicillin antibiotics.

• Have experienced a serious reaction to a cephalosporin antibiotic.

• Are allergic to another beta-lactam antibiotic.

• Are allergic to any ingredient in the capsule.

• Have infectious mononucleosis or suspected glandular fever unless specifically advised by a doctor.

Tell the healthcare provider if any of the following are being used:

• Probenecid

• Allopurinol

• Warfarin or other anticoagulants

• Methotrexate

• Tetracycline antibiotics

• Other antibacterial medicines

• Oral typhoid vaccine

• Hormonal contraceptive pills

• Other medicines containing amoxicillin

• Herbal products or supplements

• Keep the capsules in their original blister and packaging.

• Store in a cool and dry place.

• Protect from direct sunlight.

• Keep away from heat and moisture.

• Keep out of reach of children and pets.

• Do not use damaged or discoloured capsules.
