For Skin Conditions
Dermatologists may prescribe Betnesol 0.5 mg for selected severe inflammatory and autoimmune skin conditions, including:
Pemphigus vulgaris
Bullous pemphigoid
Pyoderma gangrenosum
Severe inflammatory skin disorders
Autoimmune blistering conditions
Widespread steroid-responsive inflammation
Severe allergic skin reactions
Pemphigus vulgaris causes fragile blisters and painful sores on the skin or inside the mouth. Betnesol helps reduce the immune attack responsible for the blistering.
Bullous pemphigoid causes large, itchy blisters, particularly in older adults. Corticosteroid treatment can reduce inflammation and control the abnormal immune response.
Pyoderma gangrenosum causes painful, rapidly developing skin ulcers. Betnesol may form part of specialist treatment aimed at controlling the excessive inflammation.
Betnesol should not be used to self-treat acne, a minor rash, ringworm, athlete’s foot or an unexplained skin infection. The cause of the skin problem should be diagnosed before an oral corticosteroid is started.
Other Prescribed Uses
Although this product is placed in the Skin Conditions category, doctors may also prescribe Betnesol for selected severe allergic, respiratory, rheumatic, autoimmune, intestinal, kidney and blood-related conditions.
The reason for treatment, dosage and length of therapy depend on the diagnosed illness. Betnesol should not be shared with another person, even when their symptoms appear similar.
