The results depend on the cause and stage of hair loss, regular application and the number of active follicles remaining in the affected area.

Minoxytop 5% Solution works directly on active hair follicles in the scalp. Minoxidil improves blood flow around the follicles and helps them remain in the anagen phase, which is the period when hair actively grows.

With regular application, weakened follicles can begin producing longer and thicker strands. This helps slow pattern hair thinning and supports gradual regrowth in areas where the hair follicles are still active. Minoxytop cannot create new follicles or regrow hair from permanently scarred areas. Continued application is required to maintain the improvement achieved with treatment.

The usual application for minoxidil 5% topical solution is 1 mL applied directly to the affected scalp twice daily, generally once in the morning and once in the evening.

Part the hair, measure 1 mL with the supplied applicator and spread it over the dry scalp rather than the hair. Wash the hands after applying it and allow the solution to dry completely. Do not apply more than 2 mL in 24 hours, as using extra solution will not produce faster or better hair growth.

Do not apply it to broken, infected, sunburned or irritated skin. Follow the product leaflet and dermatologist’s instructions if a different schedule has been prescribed.

Common Side Effects

Minoxytop 5% Solution can cause scalp itching, dryness, redness, flaking, mild burning or dandruff-like deposits. Some people notice unwanted facial hair when the liquid repeatedly runs onto the forehead or face. A temporary increase in shedding may also occur during the first few weeks as older hairs leave the follicles.

Serious Side Effects

Stop using the solution and obtain medical advice if it causes chest pain, a rapid heartbeat, fainting, severe dizziness, shortness of breath, swelling of the hands or feet, or sudden unexplained weight gain. Emergency treatment is required for facial swelling, breathing difficulty or another sign of a serious allergic reaction.

Minoxytop 5% Solution should not be used without medical approval when any of the following applies:

• Pregnancy

• Breastfeeding

• Children under 18

• Sudden hair loss

• Patchy hair loss

• Unexplained hair loss

• Red or inflamed scalp

• Broken or sunburned skin

• Serious heart disease

A dermatologist should first identify the cause when hair loss develops suddenly, follows childbirth, occurs in round patches or is accompanied by scalp pain, scaling or scarring.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all medicines and scalp products being used. Important interactions include:

• Other minoxidil products

• Tretinoin applied to the scalp

• Anthralin or dithranol

• Topical corticosteroids

• Other medicated scalp treatments

• Blood-pressure medicines

Certain scalp medicines can alter the skin barrier and increase minoxidil absorption. Using more than one minoxidil product can also increase the risk of dizziness, low blood pressure, fluid retention or a rapid heartbeat.

Do not combine Minoxytop 5% Solution with another medicated hair-loss product unless the treatment plan has been approved by a healthcare professional.

• Store away from children and pets.

• Do not use after the expiry date.

Minoxidil solutions commonly contain alcohol and are flammable. The solution must be allowed to dry before smoking or going near an open flame.
