The amount of improvement depends on the cause and severity of the spasticity and the dose selected by the prescriber.

Muscles move when the brain and spinal cord send electrical messages through the nerves. In people with spasticity, some of these messages become overactive and cause the muscles to tighten or contract repeatedly.

Baclofen activates GABA-B receptors in the spinal cord. These receptors help slow excessive nerve signals before they reach the muscles. As the signals become less intense, the affected muscles relax and painful spasms occur less often.

Baclofen acts mainly on the nervous system rather than directly on the muscle. This is why it is described as a centrally acting muscle relaxant.

Standard baclofen guidance commonly begins with 5 mg three times daily, followed by gradual dose increases. The usual maximum in adult oral-baclofen guidance is 80 mg per day, divided into separate doses. Bacloheal 25 mg is higher than the usual starting single dose and should be taken only when a healthcare professional has specifically selected this strength.

Swallow the tablet with water at the prescribed times. Taking it with food can help if it causes nausea. Never take an extra tablet after a missed dose, and never stop baclofen suddenly. The dose must be reduced gradually under medical supervision because abrupt withdrawal can cause severe stiffness, hallucinations, seizures or high fever. 

Common Side Effects:

Bacloheal 25 mg can cause sleepiness, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, headache, constipation, muscle weakness or poor balance. These effects are often more noticeable when treatment begins or after the dosage is increased. Avoid driving or operating machinery until it is clear how the medicine affects alertness and coordination.

Serious Side Effects:

Seek immediate medical assistance for extreme drowsiness, severe confusion, hallucinations, seizures, fainting, slow or difficult breathing, an unusually slow heartbeat or severe muscle weakness. Facial swelling, widespread rash, difficulty swallowing or breathing can indicate a serious allergic reaction and require emergency care.

Bacloheal should not be taken by anyone allergic to baclofen or another ingredient in the tablet. Medical assessment is essential for:

• People with severe kidney disease

• Older adults with kidney impairment

• People with epilepsy or previous seizures

• People with serious breathing disorders

• People with severe mental health conditions

• People with a recent stroke

• Pregnant women

• Breastfeeding women

• Children without a specialist prescription

• People using several sedative medicines

Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all medicines and supplements being used.

Important interactions include:

• Alcohol

• Opioid pain medicines

• Benzodiazepines

• Levodopa with carbidopa

Combining baclofen with alcohol, opioids or other sedating medicines can cause excessive sleepiness, poor coordination and dangerous breathing suppression. Do not start another muscle relaxant or sedative without medical approval.
